Buenos Aires again!

When the catamaran landed we braved the torrential downpour and found a cab to take us almost all the way to our hostel in the Palermo district in Buenos Aires. This is the yuppie gentrified area where all the coolest night life and hip eateries are found. In comparison to Centro – where I stayed during my first visit to BA – the streets are a lot more lively at night – in Centro after dark you’d mostly only see down and outs collecting all manner of recyclables – mostly cardboard and office paper - left out by local businesses - and you would be advised walk very quickly and assertively to your destination to avoid running into any other varieties of down and outs – in Palermo the streets were full of people – and the bar goers spilled out on patios. This is my intentionally blurry artistic photo of a late night funky restaurant in Palermo where we had a well earned meal after our journey from Uruguay. We had some calamari with very garlicky mayo and some other tasty goodies.

some shots from the Sunday antiques market in San Telmo

5842 & 5843 – Music in San Telmo – a gothic Tango band – and some guys pushing a piano down a city street Not something you see every day!

Another pretty fountain and the pink palace – one of the principal landmarks in BA – the government buildings – purportedly painted with cows blood!

Must have been a good soccer game – people were actually stopping and standing on the street to watch.

After successfully collecting Lucianna who had just arrived from Natal (Brazil) and fighting with the hostel staff to put us all in one room we had dinner at a veggie Chinese/Italian fusion buffet restaurant – we fooled Patricia into thinking it was meat! She wasn’t very happy when she realized the meat balls weren’t real ;) But we brought our own bottle of delicious wine so she recovered pretty quickly.
